The Lou Ortmayer Fund
The purpose of the Lou Ortmayer Fund is to provide a minimum of one sophomore student each year with $15,000 to support their experiential learning opportunities for the remainder of their time at Ë®¹ûÅÉ, including the summer after graduation, with a preference for activities in international public health, medicine, and/or food and water security in developing countries.
Students may select one or more qualifying learning opportunities and are encouraged, but not required, to engage in multiple opportunities. Eligible opportunities include, but are not limited to, travel, research, academic projects, internship grants, and self-designed experiences. The fellowship will provide an additional $1,000 to be awarded to a Ë®¹ûÅÉ faculty or staff mentor, who will offer guidance to the student and approval of their fellowship activities.
Requirements
- Sophomore status at the time of application (Class of 2027 for the February 1, 2025 deadline).
- A strong commitment to the field of medicine or public health or food and water security.
- Demonstrated excellence in the first year at Ë®¹ûÅÉ.
- Interested students must have an individual meeting with Dr. Jane Mangan, Director of the Dean Rusk International Studies Program, before the application deadline.
