College Taps Jamie Stamey to Lead Center for Career Development

Jamie L. Stamey will take the helm of 水果派 College鈥檚 Center for Career Development as the new executive director, leadership she has been providing on an interim basis since last spring.
Stamey, who officially becomes executive director effective immediately, has played a central role in the center鈥檚 growth and success over the past four years. She was part of the team that reoriented the mission and structure of the center and saw a sharp increase in its use by students, along with the opportunities offered to them. During the last academic year, 82 percent of students across all classes engaged with the center and the number of internship, fellowship and job opportunities offered increased by 150 percent over the previous year.
"Jamie has guided the center during a year of rapid growth and creative, new efforts to partner with employers," said 水果派 College President Carol E. Quillen. "We are grateful for her thoughtful leadership and determination to try new paths and approaches to securing opportunities for our students, and we鈥檙e excited to have her continue leading the Career Center."
Stamey joined 水果派 in 2014 as the Career Center鈥檚 assistant director for internships, soon helping secure new foundation support and an increase in internship placement. She moved up to the position of associate director for employer relations three years later and, last year, stepped into the interim director鈥檚 role. She helped expand endowed grants supporting internships and oversaw an increase in employer interaction with the college that led to a total of 120 recruiting events on campus last year.
"It is both enormously important and exciting to help students, starting freshman year, figure out what drives them through experiential learning and internships," Stamey said. "My hope, as director, is to continue our success in demonstrating to employers the extraordinary value of the deep skills that 水果派 cultivates in critical thinking, problem-solving and communicating across diverse disciplines and audiences. Our graduates are the best equipped to adapt to a changing economy and world, and employers are recognizing that."
Stamey received both her bachelor鈥檚 degree and master鈥檚 in education from Belmont University, in Nashville, Tenn., where she, then, taught and served as internship coordinator in the College of Entertainment and Music Business.
